Hi MNT backers and supporters,

We are very excited to announce the first shipments of MNT Pocket Reform! It’s been a year since our campaign has ended and we have worked constantly to get your new gear ready. How exactly did we get there and what can you expect from your long-awaited device? Here is everything you need to know:

Assembly, Testing, Logistics

In our previous update from February 2024, we informed you about our progress and the challenges we were facing as we got MNT Pocket Reform ready to ship. Now that the device is polished (hardware- and software-wise), we are focusing solely on assembly, testing, flashing, and shipment. This means that we are gradually shipping your devices to Crowd Supply without further delays.

Since all of these steps are carried out on location by two people—-Greta and Liaizon—-, it will take us a few months to ship all MNT Pocket Reform laptops. We are talking 700 units here—-a lot for a small independent company like us. This being said, a bit of patience is still required and we hope that’s okay with you. BTW you can follow our progress on the Fediverse, if you haven’t done so already.

The Setup Wizard

To give you a user-friendly and accessible experience when starting your Pocket Reform for the first time, we created a quick start manual and a custom Setup Wizard.

The Setup Wizard walks you through a list where you select your preferred keyboard layout, time/date, desktop, root password, computer name, and account.

Operator Handbook

Open Hardware and a good documentation go hand in hand, and we are taking this very seriously. If you own an MNT Reform, you’ve already come across our so-called Operator Handbook—-of which we created a second edition recently, overhauling the content and adding new sections with new information.

For MNT Pocket Reform, we created an Operator Handbook based on the Reform Handbook. This was possible because our devices have a lot of modular features. Some features are not modular though, for example the motherboard and the batteries. Taking this into account, we edited the passages and replaced the schematics to give you all the information you need to get familiar with Pocket Reform. A hard copy is in production and will be shipped as part of the "hyper" orders. A free copy is available on our website.

What’s Next?

To this day, we have shipped 48 units to Crowd Supply and a lot of them have already reached their owners. Some of you have already posted unboxing photos and videos on the Fediverse, which was very exciting for us.

We aim to ship 100 units per month and it looks like we will be able to achieve this goal. Another batch of 50 MNT Pocket Reform mini laptops is waiting to be shipped, and it has been a steady production schedule of 25 assembled and tested devices per week.

The "Hyper" orders will have to wait for another 2 weeks because the production of the Operator Handbook and the Double-sided Multicolor Risograph Print Poster took us longer than expected. It will be worth the wait, we promise.
