Hi everyone, we wanted to give you an update about the progress for Solder Ninja Pen, and tell you about our exciting time at Supercon 2024.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting some of you in person at Supercon 2024. Being around such an exceptionally creative and passionate community is always energizing.
In fact, back in 2017, it is the combination of a community project showcased on hackaday.io and my growing interest for the emerging USB Power Delivery protocol that sparked the idea for this project.
So going live with the campaign at this year’s conference felt like a full-circle moment.
This project would not have been possible without open-source being one of the core values upon which the maker community keeps sharing and improving ideas.
As part of my commitment to open sourcing, on top of the schematics that are already available, I’m happy to announce that support for IronOS is officially coming.
Some attendees had the chance to try the Solder Ninja Pen firsthand, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive! Seeing people enjoy using it was incredibly rewarding, and hearing valuable thoughts will help refine the product further.
Marc Merlin, in its impressive costume, even tested soldering with a Google Pixel phone as the power source. While it’s not ideal—more watts definitely yield better performance—it could still be a handy option in a pinch.
Finally, I had a lovely chat with Helen Leigh from Crowd Supply during the Teardown Sessions 49th episode.
Those familiar with the conference know about the vibrant SAO wall. I love this iconic ever-evolving piece of art that offers every year people a place of expressing their creativity.
The SAO soldering station returned to the wall for the second year in a row. Beyond being an obnoxious piece of marketing, it’s also a teaser and prototype for what’s next. I plan to expand the Solder Ninja line with tweezers, a soldering station and a fume extractor.
Let’s keep the conversation going! Join the Sitron Labs Discord to chat with me and the community. And I will also of course keep sharing updates here as well.
Thank you again for your support—it’s truly the fuel that keeps this project moving forward!
Sincerely,
Nicolas
