When we started shipping the first batch of devices to our backers, we shipped with a pre-release version of the software installed which has minimal functionality. So, we’re thrilled to share a major milestone in our journey: the release of the first production software version (v1.0.0) of the HealthyPi Move Firmware and mobile app!
This release reflects months of engineering, testing, and community feedback. We are incredibly grateful for your support, enthusiasm and, most importantly, patience throughout this journey. We know that most of you have had your HealthyPi Move devices for the last 2-3 weeks and we understand how eager you are to get started with the device. We have been constantly working on the software and firmware to make it as stable and feature-rich as possible, but then again, we wanted to draw a line somewhere and release the first production version. This also means that we might have missed some bugs and issues that we will be fixing in maintenance releases. If you find any issues, please report them to us.
The new firmware enables users and developers to explore the core health monitoring capabilities of HealthyPi Move. It provides a foundation for real-time personal health analytics. Here’s what’s included:
This firmware brings HealthyPi Move to life and empowers all users, including developers, to begin exploring their health metrics on a daily basis.
While the firmware is now stable, we are still working on some features that will be released in the next few weeks. All the features below are currently under validation, testing, and development.
All of these features are being developed with a focus on reliability, user friendly interface, and developer accessibility.
The Android app is available in public beta on the Google Play Store, offering users access to the following features:
The iOS app is also complete and will be available on the App Store publicly once Apple’s review is completed. We will update you when it is available. In the meantime, if you still would like to try the iOS app using TestFlight, please send us an email at movesupport@protocentral.com with your Apple ID email address and we will add you to the TestFlight beta program.
While this is only a first glimpse of the app and its capabilities, we are working on the following features that will be released in the next few weeks:
Once we are confident that the app is stable (i.e., the code is cleaned up), we will release the source code for the app on GitHub.
As evident from the above list, DFU (Device Firmware Update) is a critical feature of the app that is still not included in this release. We are working to include this feature in the next release of the app and the process will be seamless and automatic. In the meantime, you can update the firmware using one of the following Nordic Apps:
Please follow the instructions in the HealthyPi Move User Guide to download the latest firmware update zip file and update the firmware using one of the above apps.
If the software update process fails in nRF Connect, please try using the nRF Device Manager app. The firmware update process sometimes fails the first time and works the second time. If you are still unable to update the firmware, please contact us at movesupport@protocentral.com.
A few quick things to do after updating the firmware:
We expect to restore the DFU feature and full functionality of the app in the next release. We will keep you updated on the progress of the app and firmware releases. Thank you for your patience in the meanwhile.
The next release for the firmware and the app covering the missing features mentioned above is targeted for the the first week of May 2025; we will begin internal testing shortly. If there’s a feature you would like to see in the next release, please let us know by email at movesupport@protocentral.com and we will do our best to see if we can include it in the next release. You can also create an issue in the HealthyPi Move GitHub repository and check out our documentation at move.protocentral.com for progress updates.
We are truly grateful to each and every one of you for believing in HealthyPi Move. Your support has helped bring a next-generation, open health monitoring device to life—and this is just the beginning. When we started this project, we didn’t know it would take us this long and would get this complicated, but we are glad we did it. We are excited to see how you will use the HealthyPi Move in your daily life, and how you will contribute to the community by sharing your experiences, projects, and ideas.
We would love to hear your feedback, see your projects, and help answer your questions.
