Production Progress and Wyldcard at Maker Faire

by Jonah S

Thanks to those who dropped by my booth at the Bay Area Maker Faire last month! I loved watching as people’s faces went from puzzled or skeptical to being animated by excitement about the possibilities.

A deluxe Wyldcard DevKit running a Tarot deck application (example code in the GitHub repo) was accepted as an art piece for the Hayward Sun Gallery “Art Meets Tech” show. They are celebrating a new Makerspace for their community. Since I have an art piece at a gallery show, I now feel I can confidently call myself an Artist (prior to this I was an un-capitalized artist).

I received the funds from the Crowd Supply campaign and have been busily building dev kits! At first, there was a bit of a setback where the e-paper screens I was using were no longer available, so I had to rewrite my drivers and validate the new model. But things are now moving!

I’ve been uploading videos of the process and my progress. Here’s a link to the fourth and latest one about making a mold for the Wyldcards. So far, I’ve made about 100 Wyldcards, and am soldering the PCBs for the plinths. Still, it’s a lot of work to do, but things are humming along smoothly.

Some people have reached out with their ideas for how they’d like to use Wyldcards, and I would love to hear from you! Send me an email at jonah@wyldcard.io
