January 21, 2021 — Crowd Supply, the leading product development platform connecting hardware creators with early adopters and enthusiastic backers, announces the launch of Tigard, an open source, multi-protocol, multi-voltage tool for hardware hacking. Tigard is versatile and easy to use, combining support for the most-used interfaces and most-needed features in a single device. Specifically, the FT2232H-based serial converter board is designed to attach to, and communicate with, low-speed interfaces on reverse-engineered hardware targets. And it’s accessible enough to make an ideal first tool for newcomers to hardware hacking.
Tigard was developed by SecuringHardware.com, who raised nearly $80,000 USD in their successful Crowd Supply campaign. Backers were impressed with Tigard’s labelled wiring harness, commonly used pin-outs, onboard level shifting, and logic analyzer connection. Backers also appreciated Tigard’s native support for hardware tools like FlashROM and OpenOCD, its USB Type C high-speed interface and the on-board FTDI FT2232HQ USB Hi-Speed–to–multipurpose UART/FIFO IC. The board features high-performance directional level-shifters to support operation from 1.8 to 5.5V and is designed to work as-is with multiple tools and software libraries, including USB-serial drivers for UART access, UrJTAG for JTAG, and LibMPSSE for SPI and I²C interfaces.
One of the latest hardware projects launched through Crowd Supply, Tigard was recently featured in Hackster, which lauded the device as the “do-it-all, USB-to-anything serial converter board of our dreams!”
