Both NB-PC1 and GB-PC2 got a nice firmware update and we’ve kicked off production early.
Most (hopefully all) of you have heard about the Key Reinstallation Attack (a.k.a. KRACK) vulnerability in WPA2 reported last month. While neither NiuBi Personal Cloud 1 nor 2 have wireless capability, the firmware for both is based on LEDE, which is used to run wireless routers, among other things. As such, we recently merged in a large patch for KRACK and other vulnerabilities.
By design, NB-PC1 and NB-PC2 run the exact same firmware. Really, PC2 is just a physically larger version of PC1 with a few extras (e.g., another Ethernet port) and beefier power system. This makes keeping the firmware up-to-date relatively easy, or at least free from the pain of dealing with multiple, slightly different builds.
In other news, we’ve committed to a manufacturing run of NB-PC2 and tacked on another run of NB-PC1. PCBs, side plates, power supplies, and UART cables are all currently in production. More updates to come.
As always, thanks for your support and feel free to get in touch with any questions or comments.
Cheers,
Larry and the NiuBi team
