View Purchasing OptionsProject update 4 of 10
As we mentioned in our previous update, we’ve been working hard to provide a satisfying answer to the most common question asked by potential backers: "How can I get my hands on an IoT SIM card?" (In the 2G era, you could use any old SIM card and connect to the network; with 4G/5G LTE-M and NB-IoT, that’s no longer the case.)
Our team has been working closely with Soracom, a provider with excellent LTE-M and NB-IoT coverage. We’re excited to announce the launch of our SIM-card web shop, where you can order a Soracom SIM card. We believe this is a vital step toward the future of cellular IoT for individuals and small businesses. You can find an excellent writeup on Soracom’s recent blog post.
We are truly excited to be able to offer this solution and can’t wait to see the beautiful projects you all create with Walter.
Our team is working hard on adding Walter support to the Zephyr real-time operating system (RTOS). At Embedded World 2024, we talked with Benjamin CabĂ© and learned all about Zephyr’s modem subsystem, which is a relatively new component. The modem subsystem does not yet support Sequans modems, but we’re working on it and expect to submit a pull request soon.
Our team, together with the Soracom team, was present in the M2M area of the Embedded World 2024 trade fair. We had the chance to catch up with a lot of Walter beta testers and were able to present Walter to the embedded community. It’s great to hear about all the applications for which Walter will be used, from water management to road-side sensors to cellular two-factor authentication tokens. The possibilities are endless.
Daan Pape from the Walter team was asked to participate in an episode of the IoT Show from Olivier Bloch of OB Tech consulting. Olivier has extensive knowledge of IoT and lots of industry experience. In the episode, we breakdown the position of cellular IoT among other LPWAN technologies before zooming in on Walter and Walter Feels. Make sure to check out Olivier’s YouTube channel for a front-row seat.
The Walter team will have a booth at the Advanced Engineering trade fair in Antwerp, Belgium. We will present Walter and show some cool demos from the 15th to the 16th of May in booth 3205. You can click here to register your free ticket. We hope to see you at the show! (And by the way, if you register, you can help us win a public prize.)
By backing our project, you enable us to keep working on the open source software libraries that power Walter. Join us on this journey and back our campaign today to help us achieve our vision to make cellular IoT possible for anyone, from private individuals to low- and medium-volume commercial enterprises.
