Chibitronics is an evolution of Jie Qi’s passion for technology and art. As a child, Jie loved arts and crafts. At Columbia University, she studied mechanical engineering, and wanted to combine her love of technology with her love of art and design.
Jie pursued this interest with research and design experience at Columbia, littleBits and High-Low Tech at MIT Media Lab. Jie was an artist-in-residence at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, and lectured at Parsons The New School of Design, The Rhode Island School of Design, and the World Maker-Faire. She also received the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
Jie is currently pursuing her graduate studies in High-Low Tech and Responsive Environments Group at the MIT Media Lab. Her research investigates materials and techniques for blending electronics with traditional arts and crafts media to create personally meaningful technology and new media for self-expression.
