The BusKill Team has just published our cryptographically signed Warrant Canary #009.
Although security is one of our top priorities, we might not be able to inform you of a breach if we are served with a secret, state-issued subpoena (also known as a "gag order"). The BusKill team publishes cryptographically signed warrant canaries on a biannual basis to indicate to our users the integrity of our systems.
In 2024, we worked on some improvements to the BusKill app, including updating the dependencies, optimizing images, changing the settings window to recycle view, fixing a soft-shutdown arming bug on some MacOS systems, earlier privilege escalation and verification for MacOS soft-shutdown trigger, fixing a small font bug on high-DPI screens, and adding a "font" section to the settings menu (accessibility feature). We hope to polish off this v0.8.0 release in 2025.
In 2024, the BusKill package finally became available in the first Ubuntu release, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat). Ubuntu users can now easily install the buskill software with apt.
In 2024, samxplogs on YouTube published a video demonstrating how to install, update, and use BusKill on Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
In 2024, we made great progress on the 3D Printable BusKill cables, including a Prototype Demo Video. Melanie Allen also presented the 3D-printed BusKill cable at DEF CON 32
In 2024, BusKill cables became available to purchase at another physical brick-and-mortar store in Europe. We announced this with our partnership with NovaCustom.
Happy 2025!
We look forward to continuing to improve the BusKill software and making BusKill more accessible this year. If you want to help, please consider purchasing a BusKill cable for yourself or a loved one. It helps us fund further development and you get your own BusKill cable to keep you or your loved ones safe.
